Patrick Buchan is president of government and public affairs at Greensteel Australia, overseeing corporate, media and government relations for its $500 million project to build Australia's first new steel mill in more than 30 years, at Mayfield in Newcastle. He has held senior government roles in Australia and the US, including postings at the Pentagon in Washington and, in Canberra, at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and the Department of Defence, and has worked on federal, state and local campaigns. He holds degrees from La Trobe University and the University of New South Wales. On Engineering in the Hunter, he discussed the mill's return to the region.
