Laura McClure is a list MP for ACT New Zealand, elected in the 2023 general election, holding portfolios spanning business and manufacturing, education, mental health, disability and foreign affairs. Before entering Parliament she ran Fire Safety Net, developing emergency response and planning technology. In 2025 she held up an AI-generated deepfake image of herself in Parliament to highlight the harm of non-consensual deepfakes, and has pushed for a bill to criminalise their creation and sharing. She discussed the issue on In The Blink Of AI with Georgie Healy.
