About Steve Baxter
Steve Baxter is the founder and lead investor of Beaten Zone Venture Partners, a Brisbane firm that backs early-stage Australian companies building defence and space technology. He is also co-founder and executive chairman of TEN13, an early-stage venture firm that has invested since 2019.
Baxter trained as a technician through an Army apprenticeship and founded internet service provider SE Net in 1994. In 2001 he co-founded PIPE Networks with Bevan Slattery and was its chief technology officer until 2008; TPG bought the company in 2010. He then worked for Google in California, founded the Brisbane startup hub River City Labs in 2012, joined Shark Tank Australia as an investor in 2015 and was appointed Queensland's Chief Entrepreneur in 2017.
