Moira Were AM is a distinguished leader in community and social enterprise, currently serving as the Mayor of the City of Onkaparinga in South Australia. With a career spanning various sectors including community, government, non-profit, and commercial enterprises, Moira has been a steadfast advocate for justice, community, good governance, and policy development. Her work is driven by a commitment to gender equity, environmental sustainability, and democratic participation.Moira's extensive experience includes roles such as Ministerial Chief of Staff, company director, and CEO of Volunteering SA & NT Inc. She is a co-founder of Collab4Good and the founder of Chooks SA, initiatives aimed at closing the gender investment gap and fostering social enterprise. Her international work has taken her to countries like Mozambique, South Africa, and Canada, where she has implemented change management and development activities.In recognition of her decades of community service, Moira was awarded the Order of Australia (AM) in 2019. She holds academic qualifications in social work, psychology, politics, and economics, and has contributed to numerous boards and advisory roles. Moira is also an accomplished writer and poet, living on Kaurna Yerta and acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land.
