Meet Carlin McLellan.
I’ve lived in Sydney, Vancouver and Berlin. Newcastle keeps on pulling me back in with its great beaches and friendly vibes. I worked as a disability support worker for ten years while also freelancing as a music producer. I’ve played in a number of bands and been lucky enough to tour overseas. I’m one half of the local band Moonsign, a dream pop duo, and I compose ambient music as Hidden Sky. After completing a Masters of Music Therapy at Western Sydney University I moved back to Newcastle two years ago to start my business Play Anything Music Therapy. As a Registered Music Therapist and NDIS provider, I work with people of all ages and abilities in schools, homes, at my studio in Mayfield as well as online sessions. Music Therapy is an evidence-based profession in which we use music in a range of ways to help people reach their goals and develop functional capacity. A music therapy session might involve instrumental improvisation, songwriting, singing, moving to music, drumming. My favourite instrument is the Celtic Harp because no matter what you play it sounds beautiful – There are no wrong notes! We have a great community here in Mayfield West – Play Anything Music Therapy is cosily nestled amongst Jan’s Antiques, Zaaki Espresso, Quick Cuts Barber and (the legendary) Mayfield West Kebabs. I feel that I’m in the right place; Newcastle is very nurturing. There’s this feeling of connection and mutual support. A lot of my creativity is tied to this city.
